Emily

Frances O’Connor / UK 2022 / 130 min / 15
Set in a sensuous and gritty 1840’s Yorkshire, this beautifully
filmed re-imagining of the events within the Bronte household
leading up to the publication of Wuthering Heights, captures
Emily’s rebellious nature and troubled relationships within her
family wonderfully. Emily (known in the village as ‘the strange
one’) romps across moorland, caressing trees and moss while her
widowed father (Adrian Dunbar) preaches judgement from the
pulpit. Frances O’Connor has made an impressive, very well
received debut as a writer and director with this study of Emily
Bronte, intelligently played by Franco-British star Emma Mackey.
